The GSMA is expanding its events portfolio with the launch of the GSMA Mobile 360 Series, a new regional conference series for executives in the mobile industry, as well as key regulatory and government representatives. 

 

The new thought leadership conferences will complement those that are run as part of larger GSMA events such as the Mobile World Congress, Mobile Asia Expo and NFC & Mobile Money Summit and will explore key mobile industry trends and issues on a regional basis announced GSMA’s press release.

Polycom has announced broad interoperability for Microsoft Lync 2013 that includes new qualified Polycom voice solutions and a new software extension to the Polycom RealPresence Platform that will deliver interoperability between Lync 2013 and the full portfolio of Polycom standards-based video collaboration and content sharing solutions. 

 

These announcements further the extensive partnership between the two companies, building on Polycom’s portfolio of 40 video, voice and content sharing solutions that are interoperable or optimized to work with Lync 2010

Sprint has added an intrinsically-safe push-to-talk device -- Sonim XP STRIKE IS – to the Sprint Direct Connect product portfolio, helping to ensure safe, reliable mobile communications for businesses using electrical equipment in gaseous and potentially explosive atmospheres. 

 

XP STRIKE IS is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy to ignite fuel and cause a fire or explosion.

Idea Cellular has launched dual SIM 3G Smartphone, Zeal to upgrade its existing 2G users to 3G. The new dual-SIM Zeal is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and comes with 256 MB of RAM on board with Android 2.3.6 platform. 

 

 Idea Zeal is based on Android 2.3.6 OS with a 3.5-inch touch screen, having a resolution of 320X480 pixels, and a 3MP auto-focus rear camera with Digital zoom. While Zeal comes with an internal memory of 256MB RAM and 512 MB ROM, it also offers micro SD Card slot compatible for cards up to 32GB.

The Nexus 7 has been recognised as the Best Mobile Tablet at this year’s Global Mobile Awards. It is the first tablet to receive this honor, with the award category being just introduced this year.

Telefónica has named the first countries in which it will launch Firefox OS, the new, open mobile operating system from Mozilla. The first commercial handsets featuring Firefox OS will go on sale in Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Venezuela in mid-2013. Further launches are planned in both Europe and Latin America in late 2013 and 2014.

 

The first Firefox OS handsets to launch in these initial markets will be manufactured by Alcatel One Touch, LG and ZTE, featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.

Tradus.com has brought BlackBerry Z10 within reach. It features video chatting, messengers like Google Talk or AIM and allows sharing screen with other BB10 users through the web.

Sprint and Kyocera Communications have announced the March 8 availability of Kyocera Torque, the “live more, fear less” handset built to survive extreme elements and everyday life.

 

The ultra-rugged, 4G LTE Android smartphone will be available in all Sprint retail channels, including Web (www.sprint.com) and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1), for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate via reward card, with a new line of service or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement (pricing excludes taxes).

The Ascend P2 features a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and LTE Cat 4 providing an ultrafast web experience with download speeds of up to 150 Mbps.
